Friday the 13th Special-the history and 13 movies

LEGEND HAS IT: If 13 people sit down to dinner together, one will die within the year. The Turks so disliked the number 13 that it was practically expunged from their vocabulary (Brewer, 1894). Many cities do not have a 13th Street or a 13th Avenue. Many buildings don't have a 13th floor. If you have 13 letters in your name, you will have the devil's luck (Jack the Ripper, Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Theodore Bundy and Albert De Salvo all have 13 letters in their names). There are 13 witches in a coven..... (from "Friday the 13th" by David Emery)

Funny that my building does not have 13th Fl either. Why we consider the number to be so unlucky to suck our every fortunes? Read the article by David Emery, About.com. Interesting, quarky historical sum of the widespread superstition in American.

Micro veggie salad with home made Asian-fusion dressing

I served this salad with MLTS (see my previous post for the fantastic steak recipe) and it was big hit. The salad is 'very' simple, nothing dominates the flavor, perfect as a side salad. The concentrate taste of micro veggies are refreshing and tasty. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients (serving for 2)

* Spring mix salad - 2. 5 ounces
* 3/4 cup of rainbow micro veggies
* 1/2 cup of cherry tomato

Dressing

* 1/2 table spoon of light raspberry vinaigrette
(optional, you can replace it with using any wine vinaigrette, but recommended for the refreshing aroma and taste. If you want stronger Asian dressing taste, use soy sauce. Do not add any salt if you are using soy sauce)
* 1 table spoon of apple vinegar
* 2 table spoons of olive oil
* 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil (Use little bit because it has strong aroma. Although this is essential, you will want to give only a hint of the scent to the dressing)
* 3/4 table spoon of maple syrup or honey
* 3/4 teaspoon of roasted sesame
* 1/3 teaspoon of sea salt

Directions

1. WASH your greens well (even if it is pre-washed!) and drain. Place in a bowl.
2. Cut the cherry tomato in half and sprinkle into the greens
3. Mix all dressing ingredients in a small cup, stir well to blend and add to the salad.
4. Serve immediately.

*** Check out this web if you want to know more about micro veggies.

I got Koppert cress 'Sakura mix' in Chelsea market, NY.

Men love this steak!! (quick steak dinner recipe)

It took me to fix only for 30 min and my friends loved it! With their endorsement, I am spreading this easy and effective recipe. (I served it with spring mix salad, added micro veggie and home - made Asian dressing. I will share the recipe in the next post.

Ingredients for MLTS (Men Loves This Steak)

* 2 (8 ounces) beef rib eye steaks - 3/4" thick
* steak seasoning (or black pepper & kosher salt)
* 3 thick slices bacon
* 1/2 cup thinly slices red bell pepper
* 2 table spoons of butter
* 1/2 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
* 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
* 8 ounces small mushrooms (quarters)
* 2 table spoons of blue cheese (you can use feta cheese if you are not a fan of blue cheese)

Directions

(I grilled the steak in skillet though, the original recipe came as grilled. Check out the web if you are cooking in grill!
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Men-Love-This-Steak/Detail.aspx

1. Season the steaks in both sides with steak seasoning.
2. Fry the bacon in a skillet over medium-high heat until crisp. Remove the bacon from the skillet and drain on paper towers. Leave grease in the pan.
3. Grill the steaks on skillet. Heat up before you put the steak on. Cook for 6 - 7 minutes, turning once, or to your desired degree of doneness.
4. While the steaks are cooking, stir the butter, Worcestershire sauce and mustard into the bacon grease. Cook and stir over medium- high heat until better has melted. Add the red bell pepper and mushrooms; cook and stir until tender.
5. To serve, place steaks onto plates. Top with bacon, then sprinkle blue cheese and then the vegetables. Serve immediately.

Check out this store "pinkytto"

I love their dresses! The styles in this season seems more classic vs vintage in Spring/Summer.
It's unique and affordable considering the touch of cuts and designs.
Their store in East village is small but you will find many attractive dresses that will make you super indecisive... :D

are you an innovative vintage lover? (found from Philly)

Check out this store - "Sugarcube"

If you are visiting in Philly and a vintage lover, this place will be a refreshing found for you.
Mix of new and old, independent designers' collections, head to tows lovely goods, and attractive interior. Check out their website and blog, I don't think those are established well for you to shop online but will give you a sense that this place is a real cube that incubates new designers and artists in allure of vintages.

Are you tired of pink berry or red mango? Try this, Yogolino in Philly

I was in Philly for the Halloween wkd with my brother's family. Out of all the delicious food, the unexpected small to-go yogurt place really surprised me. Unfortunately, it is only place that has open in US ( it's Italian!) If you are visiting Philly and a fan of yogurt, must try this place. Haven!

** Bonus
Add pistachio syrup to your yogurt! it is soooo yummy.

Day 1 to start up my cream closet space.

If you are a kind of person who can't resist to joy-scream when you see cute little things, you might be my kind. If you are fashion snubby, picky with your choices but often lay-back, off the beat with your inner geek, you are definitely one of my kind.

My cream closet space will be filled with stories of;

1. life in NYC

2. cute, curious little things from independent designers

3. inspirations in fashion and arts

4. unique stores and restuerants

5. styling with less

5. cats (including my 17 pound Jaguar "Spunky")

6. impulsive, random subjects...etc
